Miyazaki’s most famous artist.

7: He was born too fast.

Two students this week made the same error. I think it’s a very common error for Japanese learners…

One student was talking about when she’s gets up in the morning and she said; “It’s fast than before.”

Another student was talking about the famous Miyazaki artist Ei Q (Eikyu) and said “He was born too fast.”

Actually, my daughter almost was born too fast! She was delivered 30 minutes after my wife and I arrived at the hospital-we almost had the baby in the car.

But in the other cases the student meant to say “early”, and not “fast”.

In Japanese, はやい means 早い or 速い so it’s easy to make a mistake. My students should have said:

“It’s earlier than before.”

“He was born too early.”

Good luck, and congratulations to all those students who passed the EIKEN interview last Sunday!

…………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………..

“It’s fast than before.”
“He was born too fast.”
Actually, my daughter almost was born too fast! She was delivered 30 minutes after my wife and I arrived at the hospital-we almost had the baby in the car.

“It’s earlier than before.”

“He was born too early.”
