宮崎ハロー英会話のミニレッスン 58:  2014: The Year of the Horse

I hope 2014 is a great year for you, your family and friends!

2014 is the year of the horse so below are some common English idioms about horses. How many do you know?

1. This place is such a one horse town!

2. The decision has already been made so it can’t be helped. Don’t worry about it; there’s no point beating a dead horse.

3. The problem has already happened-there’s no point closing the door after the horse has bolted.

4. I’m so hungry I could eat a horse!

5. For Christmas I got some shoes which I didn’t really like but I know we should never look a gift horse in the mouth so I just said thankyou very much.

I’ll explain the meanings in the next lesson, but how many of these do you know? Can you guess the meaning?
