3: Would you like some peasoup?
On Tuesday, we had a very thick fog in Miyazaki city. I was driving to work in the morning around 8:30 and it was very dangerous;I couldn’t see far ahead and I had to turn on my car’s headlights. I had a lesson from 9 to 10:30 and after the lesson had finished, the fog was gone and it was a beautiful sunny day. London used to have very bad fogs until around the late 1950’s. These fogs were caused by pollution and were called “pea soup fog” , (because the fog was as thick as pea soup). In 1952, around 4,000 people died of respiratory problems caused by ‘The Great fog’. After that, London cleaned up its air and luckily ‘pea soupers’ are now a thing of the past. And luckily, they don’t happen in Miyazaki either!
