宮崎ハロー英会話のミニレッスン55: Typhoons, Hurricanes and Cyclones.

This year there have been a lot of typhoons and last week we had two very big, dangerous ones coming close to Japan. But what is the difference between typhoons, hurricanes and cyclones?

Do you know?

Well, the difference is just location.

They are the same types of storms, but are called different things in different parts of the world.

In the Atlantic Ocean or Eastern Pacific they are called Hurricanes, in the Western Pacific they are called Typhoons and in the Indian Ocean and South Pacific ocean, they are called Cyclones.

So a typhoon in Japan, or a Hurricane in the USA or a Cyclone in New Zealand is actually the same thing.

And they are all very dangerous; let’s hope typhoon season is finished in Japan for this year!
