宮崎ハロー英会話のミニレッスン 68: Autumn colours at Kirishima Shrine
Last week I went to Kirishima Shrine with my family for a day trip. The weather was great, we ate some delicious food, and we saw some beautiful ‘autumn colours’. In November you can see some very beautiful autumn colours in Japan. Miyazaki is actually not famous for autumn colours, but if you drive to mountains areas such as Kirishima, you can see some beautiful colours.
In English, 紅葉 has two words, depending on what country you are from. 秋 is ‘Fall’ in American English and ‘Autumn’ in British English so you can say ‘Fall colors’, or ‘Autumn colours’. The difference between American and British English is mainly pronunciation (発音), vocabulary (単語) and spelling (綴り字), but there are some small grammar (文法) differences too. Don’t worry too much about which to speak or use, American or British, the important thing is to be consistent. If you are writing English, you should use just American English or just British English-don’t mix the two types.
