英会話宮崎,

私は買い物が本当に好きじゃないです。

宮崎ハロー英会話のミニレッスン 19: I really don’t like shopping

Duncan’s wife: Let’s go shopping today.

Duncan: No way!

Duncan’s wife: I know you don’t really like shopping, but let’s go!

Duncan: It’s not that I don’t really like shopping, I really don’t like shopping!

………………………………………………………………………………………………………

The above conversation is maybe a little confusing. Do you understand the difference between:

“I don’t really like shopping”

“I really don’t like shopping”

This week in my silver lesson at Miyazaki Hello English, a student said that “I don’t really like shopping” means 私は買い物が本当に好きじゃないです。

But, “don’t really + verb” means あまり。。。。。。じゃない、

“really don’t + verb” means  本当に。。。。。じゃないです。

I don’t really like shopping = 私は買い物があまり好きじゃないです。

I really don’t like shopping = 私は買い物が本当に好きじゃないです。

So the nuance is quite different.

And, the conversation above is fake  my wife would never ask me to go shopping because she knows that I really don’t like shopping!!!

🙂

Have a good week and a special congratulations to all those people who passed EIKEN.
