宮崎ハロー英会話のミニレッスン: verbal fillers

宮崎-ハロー-英会話-の-ミニレッスン 12: You know, it’s like, um…

Amy: Hey Risa, how was the movie?

Risa: Um, it was ok I guess, but um, you know, a little boring in parts and I thought it was too long.

This week for one of my advanced adult conversation classes I taught ‘verbal fillers’. These are expressions we use when we need a little time to think before speaking. Some students use expressions such as “well”, or “Let me see”. Actually, I don’t think native speakers use these two expressions so often. “You know”, or “Like” are more commonly used.

Try using these expressions when speaking English to sound more natural!
